I do not know why the screenshot is so little but oh well?! Using Skype is very easy and really convenient. I actually use it all the time to talk to my brother and sister who live in Texas and North Carolina so I am familiar with video chatting with people. The quality was pretty good. I know that it does randomly cut you off sometimes which is frustrating or the picture freezes up, but mostly it goes well.
I would probably not use this in my classroom. But it would be cool to have an outside resource such as the Health Department or a doctor, or other health professional come to class that day (over video) and answer questions. You could use it to have guest lectures but the lecturer could just do it over video chat. It would be a fun and different teaching strategy you could use.

Download Video
I chose to download a video about underage drinking, since that is what I am doing my video on for Project #2. The video I chose is called "Binge Drinking: Girl's Night Out."
In this video it shows how a drunk underage girl would stereotypically look after a night out of drinking. But instead of it being the end of the night it is the beginning. The catch phrase at the end is "You wouldn't start the night looking like this, so why end the night looking like this?" It really gets the point across that drinking is not a glamorous thing, but leads to poor choices, and disgusting habits.
Under fair use I could use this in my classroom for teaching purposes, which is great, since this is address one of the core standards for understanding media messages and addressing alcohol use. A good website I found for downloading these videos is Keepvid.com. It downloads the video for you really quick and easy, I definitely recommend it.

COPYRIGHT!
First off I had no idea that the movie we had to watch on copyright was so annoying. I am sorry but watching that video was ridiculous. I could not concentrate. I don't know if any of ya'll felt the same, but dang too many things going on in there haha.
But one thing I learned about copyright was the fair use policy. That makes sense since we use citations all the time without getting actual permission from the creator of whatever work we are using. I also did not know that once it has been 14 years since the copyright it goes into the public domain, where everyone can access it, and the information is there for everyone's benefit.

Video assignments
For project #2 I plan on making an example video for my students. I honestly do not think I would every teach a lesson on a video for my classes. However, I think it would be fun for students to create their own videos for an assignment in the class. So making an example video of what I want their's to look like is a good idea.
My example video and assignment for my class would be to make an anti-alcohol/drinking ad. So I need to make one of these videos.
The overall message of my ad is addressing underage drinking and the beer and liquor companies who are now targeting underage drinkers. This comes in the form of "alcopops." So in my video it would start out with a fact about underage drinking such as: In 2006, more than 19% of drivers ages 16 to 20 who died in motor vehicle crashes had been drinking alcohol. This would be followed by images of teenagers holding signs of when they had their first drink.
Second part of the ad will show different drinks such as alcopops, and plain soda. "Can you tell the difference?" Then put up the alcohol content for each drink. Commercial will end saying: "Talk to your child about underage drinking, before it's too late."
I plan on using muvee or windows movie maker to edit this video.
This movie will help students learn in a different way than just sitting in a classroom taking notes. They get to do something! Students get to be creative and work with their friends and classmates. They will also be able to research a health topic in a fun way. I think this will resonate more with students after they see a few "above the influence" commercials and get to make their own. The lesson becomes more memorable and will make a bigger impact.
